why am i looking at this screen when i have a window?

It’s raining here after a long dry spell.

Strange to hear water on the metal roof again.

Delivering mail in the rain is a drag.

Here’s a good Ted talk about the dangers of spending too much time with your electronic devices….and not enough time with each other.

I’ve written about this before.

I don’t have a smartphone….so it’s easy for me to poke fingers at people who spend all their time on a smartphone.

I’d probably be on it all the time if I had the chance.

Why, I’d probably figure out a way to start a blog or something….do something to legitimize (in my mind, at least) all the time I spent on the device.

I do know that when I see a couple out on the town….or a family sitting at an adjoining table at a restaurant…..and they’re all in their own electronic worlds with a cellphone in their hand….furiously swiping and tapping…..looking at something that must be REALLY IMPORTANT….LIKE ANOTHER FUNNY KITTY VIDEO…and they aren’t really even together even though they’re sitting two feet away from each other….well…I know that it still seems funny and weird to me.

I’m not immune to any of this, though.

I’m too cheap for a smartphone….or I’d be a digital zombie, too.

Or, maybe, I’d be a MOBILE digital zombie…..I’m already lured by the desktop…..sure that something important might be happening on the other side of the screen.

Hey!! It’s like a television that I can interact with!!

How exciting is that?!!

It’s a real problem.

A window is a lot better than a computer screen.

The real outside is better than anything we can conjure with a connection to the internet.

Maybe we need a big EMP or something?

Nah….that’d be horrible….not being able to poke a digital finger.

That would be horrible to be cut off from cyberspace.

If I had any real integrity, I’d be writing all of this with a stick in the dirt.

You can’t complain about the electronic divide and then hit send….that’s hypocritical.

HYPOCRITICAL.

You know?
